Dear Pupils

This is the first of my official music teaching newsletters. I hope you have all had a lovely summer and have come back rested and refreshed.

Changes to fees:

  • Fees for this term: 30mins = £16, 45mins = £24, 60mins = £30 (as previously advised)
  • From 1st January 2016 my fees will be: 30mins = £16, 45mins = £24, 60mins = £32
  • This will bring my 1hr lessons into line with my other fees. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Other useful info:

  • You must let me know in advance if you wish to play your instrument in public (for instance in a school concert, talent show or music festival).
  • Lessons cancelled on the day of your lesson must be paid for in full. Lessons cancelled further in advance will be carried forward. If I have to cancel a lesson I will carry it forward.
  • Please remember that, if you wish to stop having private music lessons with me, you need to give at least half a term’s (or 5 lessons) notice in writing. Thank you for your understanding.

Examination entries:

  • For those taking ABRSM music examinations in November, entries are due by the end of September.
  • Please discuss with me if you / your son/daughter is considering taking an exam this term. If so, they should already be able to play their three exam pieces and all their technical work.
  • If you have school entrance exams coming up, and are planning to play your instrument, please discuss this with me asap.
Music Festivals:

  • I am planning to enter some pupils to play in classes at Woking Music Festival this November. Please let me know if this would interest you - entries are due at the end of September. This would be a good opportunity to play one of your exam pieces, and is a great way to get performance experience and feedback. More information can be found here: http://www.wokingmusicfestival.org.uk/
  • Godalming Music Festival is in March 2016, and you can find out more here: http://www.godalmingmusicfestival.org.uk
Please do let me know if you have any questions.

If you reply to this newsletter, I will receive it at my usual email address.

Best wishes

Jane

Dear Pupils

Half term

I will be teaching as usual during half term. If you are going to be away, or would like to move the time or day of your lesson, or would like an additional lesson, please let me know asap.

Exam dates

The theory date is on Wednesday 4th March at 5pm.

For those taking instrumental exams this term, the exam dates haven’t come through yet. I’ll contact you individually as soon as they come through – we’ll have about 4 weeks notice.

Pianists

Note Trainer Lite is a fabulous app for piano students. It’s available on Android for free, and on the “i-thing” for under £1. Do download it and play with it! It helps to associate the note on the page with the relevant key on the piano, so is fab for improving your sight reading.

Concerts

Do check out the Royal Festival Hall / South Bank Centre / Woking Symphony Orchestra / Guildford Symphony Orchestra in case there is anything which might interest you. Going to concerts is a great way to observe more experienced players and have an inspiring musical experience.

Younger Pupils and Concerts

For those of you with younger children, there are also often events during the day in half term, including the Imagine Children’s Festival at the South Bank Centre for the next 2 weeks: http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whatson/festivals-series/imagine-childrens-festival
